Have you been trying for months- or years- to save something, ANYTHING, but it seems like every time you start to see progress, an unexpected expense pops up that makes you start over?
If you see recurring patterns, it may not be your habits, but your subconscious (aka: your mindset). (please note: this does not include the occasional unexpected expense, which is why we have savings, right?)
From the time we are born until we are at least 6 years old, we absorb everything we see and hear. The good news is this helps keep us safe and alive. The not-so-good news is that no one told us that many of these things would no longer apply once we matured or, more likely, were not really true.
Those around us mostly meant well. They were passing along the wisdom they had acquired over the years, hoping to keep us from making the same mistakes they did.
But the world is not the same one it was when they were our age.
And our brains bring to life that which we believe. If that belief is in opposition to our wants, the belief wins.
Here are some common money mindset beliefs that are not true:
– rich people are evil
– money is the root of all evil
– you have to work hard to earn money
– you will never be able to have nice things
– easy come, easy go
It is easy to see if beliefs are holding you back: simply say them out loud.
Then notice your immediate thoughts and any reactions in your body.
If you notice something “negative”, ask yourself if that belief is ALWAYS true. It usually will not take you too long to find at least one instance where the belief is not true.
This gives you an opening to replace the old belief with one that is more empowering.
For example: “I have to work hard for my money”
Think of the last time you did not have to work hard, but received money. It could be your birthday, a holiday, change found on the ground, or whatever. Now you see money can come to you without having to work hard.
From there you can change your belief to “money can come easily or I can work hard for it”.
If you want to go one step further you could even shorten it to “money comes to me easily”,
What are some of your money beliefs that you would like to change?
