Family Finance Friday- The Power of Sharing our Blessings
Happy Easter/Passover/Holi everyone!
With all of the celebrations going on this weekend, your children are probably excited to see what they will receive.
This is the perfect time to teach about giving. And, since I am a Christian, this is going to be Easter-specific, but I have faith you can figure out a way to apply this lesson regardless of your religion (or even if you are non-denominational or atheist).
Talk to your children before all the Easter egg hunts and baskets appear.
Explain to them the reason behind the holiday- that God was very generous and giving to the point that he gave us his most precious gift. And that he continues to be generous even when we do not fully appreciate what He does for us.
Explain tithing- what it is and how it works. That God expects us to share our blessings (what we receive) with others and that when we do so, we will receive even more. It may not necessarily be more money or more candy. It could be a good feeling, a story, a smile, or something completely different.
Then ask if they are on board to share some of what they receive this weekend. It could be sharing some of their Easter basket with an elderly relative or making cards for those who are lonely or let them come up with creative ways that coincide with your weekend plans.
