Let’s talk mindset.
Most of what we believe about money is learned at a young age. It may have been heard, seen, or even just a feeling.
The influencers in your life may not have even known what they were doing.
What are you teaching your kids about money?
There is no worksheet for this one. Just have your kids write down all the things that come to mind when they think of money, wealth, investing, home ownership, credit cards, etc. You can write down yours, too.
Then compare notes. Are there any surprises?
The best part is that you can help your children re-think their money beliefs. Perhaps they misunderstood something or perhaps you passed along something without realizing it or maybe they heard something from someone who has a negative relationship with money.
Brainstorm the beliefs you all agree are untrue and write new beliefs to replace the old. When you find yourself thinking the untrue thought, consciously replace it with the new one. If you hear someone else say the untrue belief you can either remind them of the new one or create a “penalty jar” and use the proceeds for a fun family activity!
