“Fake it ’til you make it” is hurting your chances of success.
I know this advice has been floating around since I was a Mary Kay consultant (almost 30 years ago now!) and I still see it popping up.
But, Warren Buffett says this advice leads to a bad habit known as intellectual arrogance. And he is challenging us to change that bad habit.
Are you ready to take the Oracle of Omaha up on his challenge?
What is “intellectual arrogance”?
It is where you feel like you have to act smarter than everyone else in an attempt to prove you are better or that you belong.
Are you guilty?
I think most of us have been at some point.
The problem is that if you are the smartest person in the room you have no one to learn from and, worse, if you are pretending to be the smartest person in the room you do not have time to listen to others.
Instead Buffett challenges us to find reverse mentors- younger, less experienced people who can give a fresh perspective.
So, what is one piece of advice you would give older people? Your age does not matter. Whether you are 18 or 80, I bet there is something you have noticed about your elders that they could benefit from. Please share it!
