You can OWN your goals so you are not swayed or bullied by others with these 10 simple, but not always easy, steps (it sounds long, but it really is not).
1. Write down your goal.
2. Why do you want this goal?
3. Why [fill in the answer from #2]?
4. Why [fill in the answer from #3]?
5. Why [fill in the answer from #4]?
6. Why [fill in the answer from #5]?
7. Why [fill in the answer from #6]?
8. Why [fill in the answer from #7]?
(now you will have your REAL “why”)
9. Do you still want this goal?
Does it feel good to you?
Or was something someone else chose for you?
Or something you thought you were supposed to do?
10. Assuming this is a goal that passses all 7 whys, is a goal that you want solely for you, and aligns with your core values: Own this goal with every fiber of your being.
Others can choose to support you, stay neutral, or get out of your way. That decision is for them to make and has nothing to do with you. When you are firm in your beliefs it leaves no room for their opinion.

Do not put yourself in harm’s way. Write a letter, have a zoom call, enlist a professional to help you through the process, or distance yourself until they are no longer part of your life. It is amazing how many people will support you when you know what you really want and are willing to stand up for it.
