We are so good at telling ourselves rational lies, aren’t we?
Because, really, at the end of the day, when we rationalize something we are just telling ourselves rational lies (thank you Derek Rydall!)
Every time you say “oh, it’s only $5” or “one soda won’t hurt” or “I deserve this” to something that is not getting you closer to your goals, you are using rational lies.
Because those little things add up.
And, this is not to say you should never splurge or treat yourself. Just work it into your plan.
And, if it is not in your plan ask yourself if you are doing it because you really want it or are you avoiding something else?
Often this is a feeling- something unpleasant we are trying to avoid.
So, lean into it. Explore it. Write it down. Tap it out. Meditate. Take a walk. Let yourself FEEL what is coming up.
Do not try to change it or avoid it.
Because if you try to avoid it when it is small, it will grow and become more powerful until it literally knocks you down and you have to deal with it.
