I have had a lot of conversations recently with recent college grads and people bored after 6+ weeks of social distancing and unemployment.
What do they have in common?
Whether you have 40 years experience in a field or are just starting out, almost everyone right now is at the same starting point.
Things are no longer being done the same way they have always been done. Companies and industries are pivoting or they are crashing.
In some ways the person with no experience may find it easier to succeed because (s)he is more agile and more willing to try something new (or may not even know they are “breaking the rules”).
Now is a great time to try something new. “Thinking outside the box” sounds great, but can be very difficult to implement.
Do not be afraid to ask people who are not in your industry for ideas.
Think about what is missing or do a little research to find out what others would like to see in your industry that is not being done.
Who is not being served?
Did you know that Uber was created after two guys could not find a taxi after a late night and asked “what if I could call a taxi at will”?
Derek Rydall has a great saying: “What you are waiting for, you are waiting with, and you are often weighing it down”. In other words, stop waiting for someone else to create what you see is missing in the world. We are all waiting for you to bring it to life.
So, what are some things you could do to fill a void in the world? What are you waiting for or wish was available to you right now?
