How To- Get What You Want

This was inspired by a youtube video with Jim Rohn. It is deceptively simple, yet astonishingly powerful.

How do you get what you want?

Ask.

It is written in the bible- “Ask and ye shall receive”. Or, to be complete, “Ask and ye shall receive. Seek and ye shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened to you.” (Matthew 7)

And yet so few of us actually ask, seek, or knock. We whine. We complain. We blame. We are resigned. We go through life on autopilot, living the same day- maybe even the same year- over and over.

As Einstein said “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.

The second part of this is that you have to ask in a way that will get you the result you want. Ask empowering questions-
How can I…?
Where can I find…?
Who do I know…?

What you think about you bring about, so if you ask “how can I get out of debt”, your focus is on debt and more debt is what you will receive. Instead, determine how much you need to earn to cover your expenses and ask “how can I earn $X per month?” If you want to be bold ask “how can I turn my annual income into my monthly income?” or “how can I make $5,000 per week” or any other definitive outcome you wish to achieve.

But, asking is not enough. You also have to seek the answers. Be open to receiving the response. You may find the answer in a song, a podcast, a sermon, a dream, or in the most unexpected or mundane of places.

The last part of the formula is to knock. Be ready to take some action. Be proactive. As ideas come to you for how to achieve your desired outcome act on them. It is said the biggest source of regret is inaction. Plus, why should the Universe/God/Source/whatever give you more if you do not use what you are given?

Action Steps:

1. Decide what you want.
2. Decide when you want it.
3. Check your request and ensure it is positive and empowering.
4. Write your request on a piece of paper. If you have any conditions you want to attach to your request, include them here. For example: “How can I earn $1,000 per week while still having time to socialize with my friends?”
5. Look for the answer to appear. Write down any thought that pops into your head. Keep a journal with you for this purpose. An idea that is not written down where you can later find it will be lost as quickly as an idea that is not written at all.
6. Take action. If you have any ideas you can take action on, do so. If not, continue to look at your new ideas to see if you can find a pattern. Or, you can ask a new question: “how can these ideas help me earn $1,000 per week while still having time to socialize with my friends?”
